Richard Garcia

Richard Garcia is the most well known and recognizable contemporary jazz saxophonist in San Antonio. He is considered one of the foremost horn multi-instrumentalists in the Southwest, due to his prowess on both woodwind and brass instruments. In addition to his own recording projects, he is a very much in demand recording studio musician. His very personal saxophone sound has been heard on countless recordings made in Texas with various artists, commercials, jingles, and movie soundtracks. Richard Garcia has been featured and written about in many national and regional publications: Downbeat, Windplayer, Texas Monthly, Texas Jazz, Austin Chronicle, S.A. Current, San Antonio Express-News and others.
Richard Garcia has been the leader of First Light since 1985. They have performed at jazz festivals and concerts throughout the Southwest. First Light has played with and/or opened shows for Kirk Whalum, Spyro Gyra, The Rippingtons, Diane Schurr, Herbie Mann, Carmen McRae, Stanley Clarke, Freddie Hubbard, Al DeMeola , Dexter Gordon, and many others.
