Jose Maria Perello was born in Pamplona, Spain and in 1974, he moved to the United States. Perello became a professional musician after he obtained a degree in economics at the University of Madrid. Perello studied classical guitar under Mary Anthony of New York. Perello cultivates different styles, alternating appearances with lectures and recitals, as well as accompanying flamenco dancers.

Perello is the founder and leader of the group Play Hot Jazz which has performed in the International Jazz Festival in San Sebastian, Spain and the International Jazz Festival of Prerov, Czechoslovakia, along with numerous concerts at several universities in Spain. In the United States, Perello has performed recitals for the Mid-Hudson Classic Guitar Society (of which he is also co-founder), P.B.S. Television in New York, and (as accompaniment) for dancer Margarita Montero in Woodstock, New York.
